Article: Law may prove to be equalizer for Union League

You can say this about the gentlemen of the Union League Club:
They're beautiful when they're angry.
And they are in the midst of a snit at the moment. It has to do
with a few recent words in this space.
Put it this way:
All I did was explain that on March 20, the club voted, for the
third time in 10 years, to keep women in their place - which, as any
clubman knows, is in the beauty salon, chattering away.
The Union League pondered mightily, as the U.S. Senate might
ponder an arms treaty, and declared that women, not being equal
members of the species, simply couldn't expect to be members.
Hey. Somebody has to keep the little ladies from getting too
uppity.
Or as president ...
