Article: Pullman builds on historic roots // Former company town pulls together for revival

Welcome to Historic Pullman, considered "the world's most perfect town" when railway sleeping car inventor George M. Pullman built it as a model industrial community in the 1880s.

Today, the parklike collection of red brick row houses is known for the way its residents pulled together to save it from destruction in the 1960s and to build on historic roots to give it new and thriving life.

The Far South Side community also is one of the hottest spots on the Chicago area's list of historic walks and house tours. Sun-Times Travel Editor Jack Schnedler rates it among Chicago's Top 10 visitor highlights.

Talk about community pride. The residents of Pullman do all the time.
