WASHINGTON Probably the most complete cache of knowledge about the Iran-contra affair and related covert activities has slipped away with the death of former CIA Director William J. Casey.

Congressional investigators, left to probe indirectly at the culpability of President Reagan and other senior administration officials in the scandal, said Casey's death means some questions probably will go forever unanswered.
