The elegaic melody of "The Sweetest Gift" weaves a tapestry of
humble memories for the Judds. The gentle 1936 bluegrass ballad
about a mother who visits her son in prison was the first song the
mother-daughter duo learned together.
With a chorus that promises, "It was a halo, sent down from
heaven - the sweetest gift, a mother's smile," the song still carries
such internal emotional power that it is not clear if the Judds will
sing it Sunday when they will appear with Dolly Parton and Alabama in
the Marlboro Country Music Concert at the Rosemont Horizon.
