Article: Rita Hayworth dies; '40s `love goddess,' Alzheimer's victim

HOLLYWOOD Rita Hayworth, a shy Spanish dancer who became the movie world's "love goddess" of the 1940s only to rebel against the studio system that created her, is dead at the age of 69.

Miss Hayworth was a victim of the debilitating Alzheimer's disease, which robbed her of speech and memory during the last years of her life. She died Thursday night in the New York City apartment of Princess Yasmin Khan Embiricos, her daughter from her storybook 1949 marriage to Prince Aly Khan.

Her glamor was such that during World War II a photo of Miss Hayworth kneeling on a bed in a negligee ranked with film actress Betty Grable's leggy swimsuit pose as the GIs' favorite pinup.
