The latest arrival in the River North district is Mongerson Wunderlich Galleries, which opened the doors of its beautifully renovated new gallery on May 9.

Attracted by bigger exhibit spaces, cheaper rent and better visibility to an ever-increasing, art-viewing audience, the gallery moved across town fromits cramped North Michigan Avenue space to a spacious, well-appointed, two-story building at 704 N. Wells.

Founded in New York in 1874 by present owner Rudy Wunderlich's grandfather, Mongerson Wunderlich has a reputation for being a conservative, old-line gallery. It specializes in 19th century and traditional 20th century paintings with no apologies to its trendier neighbors. In fact, ...
