Article: Italy's passion erupts for Mille Miglia race

ROME This was a slice of La Dolce Vita.

It was long past midnight. I was wandering with international movie star John Philip Law among Ferraris, Maseratis and millions of dollars worth of other exotic racing cars parked at the halfway point of Italy's Mille Miglia race.

Law and I had dined with Joe Marchetti, Ferrari dealer and owner of Chicago's Como Inn restaurant, and Valerie Micangeli, wife of the owner of Europe's huge Ciga hotel chain.

We were restless, looking for something to do after a drink at Micangeli's penthouse overlooking Rome. Law discovered Marchetti and I were involved with the Mille Miglia and wanted to see the racing cars.
