they're lamenting the collapse of Gary Hart's bid for the 1988
Democratic presidential nomination.
As the folks in New Haven, Conn., are painfully aware, the
unmaking of Gary Hart had less to do with the former Colorado
senator's weekend fling with Donna Rice than it did with another
political liability. Hart, a 1964 graduate of the Yale University
Law School, is the latest victim of the Whiffenpoof syndrome.
The thing that George Bush probably fears most in his 1988 GOP
presidential campaign isn't full disclosure of his role in the
Irangate controversy. In the wake of Hart's sudden destruction,
