PARIS Martina Navratilova breezed past defending champion Chris
Evert 6-2, 6-2 Thursday and into tomorrow's final of the French
Open.
Steffi Graf, seeking her first Grand Slam title and seventh
consecutive tournament victory, struggled before beating Gabriela
Sabatini 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in the opening match of a rain-plagued
program.
In today's men's semifinals, top-seeded Ivan Lendl meets No. 5
Miloslav Mecir and No. 2 Boris Becker faces No. 4 Mats Wilander.
Navratilova said she felt sorry as her 72nd match with Evert
neared an end. "I shall come back next year, and that is what I was
thinking about," she said. "I wonder whether Chris will come back."
Evert is 32 and has given hints ...
