Article: Farrakhan downplays Jesse feud // Says Jackson win would mean little

Black Muslim leader Louis Farrakhan, whose comments during the 1984 presidential campaign caused political problems for the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, is playing down talk that he and Jackson are feuding.

"The world must know that if there is a difference between me and Rev. Jackson, we will solve our problems behind closed doors," Farrakhan said in a speech Saturday night to hundreds of supporters at a South Side church.

Farrakhan said that even if Jackson is elected president in 1988, his victory would mean little because he lacks an economic base.

"Politics without economics is symbol without substance," Farrakhan said.
