Lee Elia, the Philadelphia Phillies' new manager, is a member of
a minority group.
He is among the minority of big league managers who not only
have put their feet in their mouths, but down their throats.
Al Campanis, the Los Angeles Dodgers' former vice president,
also is in the minority - the minority of baseball executives who
have embarrassed themselves, their employers and their sport on
national television.
To borrow Campanis' line, you could say both lack "some of the
necessities" for baseball management. Each has failed Public
Relations 101, the course most basic to managerial jobs in any
industry.
