LaMarr Hoyt, who grew up in the White Sox minor leagues, will
start his baseball life anew in the same place.
Hoyt and the Sox Wednesday agreed to a contract - expected to be
signed within two days - that will send him to Class A Daytona Beach
for physical and mental rehabilitation.
Hoyt was unavailable for comment but his San Diego attorney,
Howard Frank, said Hoyt's worst days are behind him. The former Cy
Young winner, who is on federal probation, has been tested regularly
for drugs.
"If he never picks up a baseball for the rest of his life, he
has to be tested as part of his probation," Frank said. "He's been
clean."
