Sen. Robert Dole (R-Kan.) charged that "most of Robert
Bork's opponents wouldn't know a judicial moderate from an Iranian
moderate." He said opponents to Judge Bork are seeking a nominee who
would decide cases in their favor.
If "in their favor" means pursuing justice and protecting
constitutional liberties, then he is right.
What is crucial in Mr. Bork's nomination is not just one seat
on the Supreme Court but four decades of progress in the area of
civil rights and civil liberties. For almost 25 years he has opposed
