SOMERSET, Bermuda This is a friendly place. Bermudians speak to you first when you pass on the street, and greet each other with "All right!" without waiting for the obvious "How do you do?"

Even the 150 islands that make up Bermuda are shaped like a smile. Yet the casual way of life is tempered with traditional British restraint.

This pinpoint of land in the Atlantic Ocean 600 miles east of North Carolina, though long a favorite getaway spot for New Englanders, has been mostly neglected by Midwest vacationers. That's a pity. If relaxation is your vacation goal, there are few places better suited for it than Bermuda.
