As the Bears defense has threatened to come unglued because of cornerback deficiencies, Eric Jeffries has shown that sticking is his game.

That's sticking as in hitting.

Sticking as in staying with receivers.

And sticking as in remaining on the roster.

For a player who was the third to last chosen in the 1987 draft, the cornerback from Texas has a remarkably good chance of being a Bear when the season opens in three weeks.

Jeffries is in the right place at the right time. He would be facing much stiffer odds of making the team if Mike Richardson wasn't a holdout or if Les Frazier hadn't failed his physical or if the Bears had drafted a cornerback in a higher round.
