There is no doubt obesity contributes to physical problems, but
the truly obese people are not the majority of consumers purchasing
TV-advertised diet products. The millions of consumers who purchase
these products are the women who are overweight five to 15 pounds.
Although these diet pills carry warnings that consumers with
high blood pressure should not use them, the average woman bent on
losing a few pounds is not that worried about her blood pressure,
particularly if it is slightly or moderately high.
These pills contain phenylpropanolamine (abbreviated PPA). PPA
is a nasal decongestant found in many cough and cold preparations.
