The summer music season really won't be over until next
weekend, but the autumn season will open sumptuously at 8 p.m.
Wednesday when Luciano Pavarotti comes to the Auditorium for a
program of songs and arias. For those who want to attend and don't
have a ticket, I haven't any suggestions. Try prayer. The
4,000-seat theater was sold out to the roof a month ago, even after
200 stage seats were added. No one, I suggest, has drawn a larger
audience to the hall in the past half-century.
Those in the top gallery will learn why the Auditorium acoustics
