FRANKLIN, Wis. Gary Hallberg was lucky to have his sister Debbie
as his caddie Monday.
Accident or not, she had just the answer when her brother showed
signs of throwing away the Greater Milwaukee Open's $108,000 first
prize.
Gary, trying to protect a one-shot lead, hit a 5-iron over the
17th green at Tuckaway Country Club. As they were leaving the tee
Debbie used the same club to crack her brother on the head.
"It woke me up," Gary said. "It got me back in the game. Her
hitting me in the head was the key."
"Actually, it wasn't quite that way," said Debbie, who was just
trying to put the club back in the bag.
