The novelty of nouvelle this and nouvelle that aside, it's hard
to beat those wonderful comfort foods we grew up with.
Take macaroni and cheese. And no, I'm not talking about the
boxed stuff with the skinny tube macaroni and orange powder, although
in my college days I was known to make many a meal of it.
I'm talking real macaroni and cheese: cooked noodles with a
simple but heartwarming sauce of sharp Cheddar, milk or cream, and
butter. It can be served gooey, straight from the pot, or baked
until it's chewy and crusty.
Macaroni and cheese for the '80s can be made with an assortment
of pastas - wheels, corkscrews and shells - in different colors.
