Striking Bears with bonus clauses in their contracts for playing
time could be denied their bonuses as a result of the strike,
director of finance Ted Phillips said. Several Bears have clauses
that stipulate they receive bonus money if they play a certain
percentage of the total plays. Non-union plays will be counted
toward the total, Phillips said.
Striking center Jay Hilgenberg stopped by at Halas Hall Thursday to
tell the finance department how he wanted his paycheck handled.
Royal Zen, a first-time starter in the second race at Hawthorne
