Fur coats are associated with good life, with luxury, wealth,
status and even with happiness itself. Having a fur coat is one
component of the American Dream. But the American Dream is an
animal's nightmare. Behind the sexy fur cape is a fox caught in the
wild, its paw trapped and bloodied, its face contorted in pain.
Aggressive professional marketing, during the 1970s and '80s,
has quadrupled annual fur sales in the United States to last year's
record $1.5 billion. The demand and carnage continue. The fur
industry, in the United States alone, uses 15 million trapped animals
