Hollywood, known the world over as the American film city, has
lured multitudes westward in search of the finer, more glamorous life
most often depicted on the silver screen.
Yet, Hollywood is actually a suburb of Los Angeles and has
suffered the wrath of many, including film pioneer D. W. Griffith,
who once said, "It's a shame to take this country away from the
rattlesnakes."
Well-know authors have been no kinder when summing up the town
that film images have blurred.
Works of three of America's top writers form the basis for
"Tales from the Hollywood Hills," a three-part mini-series airing on
Saturdays in the "Great Performances" series.
