It's hard to find Oliver Law's name in the history books. But the black Chicagoan deserves to be listed among America's heroes, according to a group that will honor him tomorrow night - 50 years after his death.

Law was the first black American in U.S. history to command a mostly white military force, said event co-organizer Milt Cohen.

"He is one of many black Americans whose contributions to history have been neglected, and it's important that young people know of his courage and sacrifice," said Cohen, 72.
