Article: Mac SE simplifies computers

Last month, after living with a 1983 IBM personal computer that was not aging gracefully, I bought a Macintosh SE. At first, I wondered whether I had purchased an expensive ($3,000) toy. Then I reasoned that although the Macintosh is expensive, most IBM compatibles are not much less than a comparably equipped Mac once you add the essential accessories.

I'm no newcomer to desktop computers; I've had one since 1979. However, I was amazed at how easily the Macintosh made itself at home. It is about one-third the size of my IBM and took only five minutes to install.
