More household fires occur during the winter than any other time
of the year, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
And from a minor stovetop kitchen fire to more serious blazes, they
can permeate the house with the invisible, persistent and acrid odor
of smoke.
Understanding the chemical makeup of smoke is key to eliminating
the odor, said Nelson Bean, president of Evans American Corp., a
Houston-based company that specializes in reconstruction of buildings
damaged by fires, floods and other catastrophes.
