QUESTION: Are the Bears playing well enough to go to the Super
Bowl? Who is?
ANSWER: They're not now. The best teams today are Minnesota in
the NFC and Cleveland or Seattle in the AFC. But a year ago, with
five games left, the best teams were the Redskins and the Jets. They
didn't go to the Super Bowl.
Only an exceptional team can peak this early and carry it
through the Super Bowl, as the 1985 Bears did. If the Bears' defense
can rebound merely to above average, they would be the best team in
