The place looks calm enough, but the lunchroom at Farragut High
School on the West Side is a war zone.
At least a third of the students eating hamburgers and fries or
sipping pop at crowded benches belong to one of two neighborhood
gangs, says a police officer who provides security at the school. At
any moment, a fight between two gang members could turn the lunchroom
into a dangerous free-for-all.
To neutralize gang activity in the school at 2345 S. Christiana,
Farragut has beefed up security considerably and enforced a strict
dress code.
