Article: CTA `rule breaker' gets pact

A CTA contractor accused of ignoring strict agency standards for L car motor repairs will get a new $596,000 contract after all, officials said Wednesday.

The surprise reversal by CTA senior administrator Gloria Chevere followed a last-minute appeal by Calumet Armature Electric and written promises that the company would extend to two years warranties on L car motor armatures - the core of electric L car motors - repaired outside specifications.

The Riverdale company also has guaranteed that it will not subcontract any of its repair work and that it will perform a critical vacuum pressure process aimed at preventing electrical short circuits that can lead to fires.
