America West Airline will discontinue service between Midway
Airport and Las Vegas and Phoenix, effective Jan. 6, but the company
will continue its five-a-day service from O'Hare to the same two
cities.
By going into Midway in June, the company became one of four
carriers that serve both airports, the others being Northwest, United
and Continental.
"A lot of people on the South Side like the quality of our
service at Midway, but we have to use our resources where there is
stronger demand, and that is at O'Hare," said Rick Fischer, eastern
regional manager of America West. "Sometimes repositioning is
necessary to have a profitable company, and we are set for a strong
1988."
