TEMPE, Ariz. No. 3 Florida State and No. 5 Nebraska, all but out
of the running for the national championship, still have goals to
achieve when they face each other today in the Fiesta Bowl (12:30
p.m., Ch. 5).
Both teams fell one victory short of a good shot at the national
championship. Nebraska lost 17-7 to Oklahoma and Florida State fell
26-25 to Miami.
A victory by Florida State would give the Seminoles their
highest ranking in school history, better than the No. 5 they held at
the end of the 1980 season. In addition, they still harbor slim
hopes of sneaking in for the national title should Oklahoma and Miami
tie in the Orange Bowl.
