Article: Pucinski, Braun big high campaign costs

Aurelia Pucinski and Carol Moseley Braun said Friday they expect to spend $200,000 and $125,000, respectively, in their campaigns for Cook County office.

Pucinski, the endorsed Democratic candidate in the March 15 primary for clerk of Circuit Court, and Braun, on the same slate for recorder of deeds, decried the size of their campaign budgets, but said they had calculated their needs stringently.

"It's outrageous, but that's what it takes," Braun said.

Pucinski, now a Sanitary District commissioner, seeks an office that pays $55,000 a year. Braun, a state representative who was legislative floor leader for the late Mayor Harold Washington, is bidding for a job paying $50,000.
