Article: Nicaraguan official denies missile threat

ROME Nicaragua's information minister on Saturday rejected White House charges that President Daniel Ortega had threatened to supply Salvadoran guerrillas with surface-to-air missiles if contra rebels received more U.S. aid.

"The president said nothing like that," the minister, Manuel Espinosa, said in Rome, where Ortega has had talks with Italian leaders and Pope John Paul II.

"Nicaragua is working for and seeking peace in Central America," he added.
