Aurelia Pucinski won on points.
For the only time in their Democratic primary contest for
Circuit Court clerk, former Mayor Jane M. Byrne and Pucinski slugged
it out Tuesday night in a free-swinging debate on the South Side,
billed as a candidates' "forum."
From the beginning, Pucinski was more specific in addressing the
problems of the nation's largest court system and the clerk's office.
As a lawyer, Pucinski spoke crisply and with more firsthand knowledge
of the office than Byrne, who describes her current occupation as
lecturer.
Pucinski got off some of the night's better one-liners,
including a reference to Byrne's administration as a "Wheel of
Fortune" for city contractors who ...
