Article: Bronze medal within reach for U.S. sled

CALGARY, Alberta A medal could heal a lot of wounds on the U.S. bobsled team. And Brent Rushlaw, the veteran driver who sidestepped the Willie Gault controversy, put his four-man sled USA1 into medal contention Saturday with two strong runs.

Only 0.19 of a second separated Rushlaw from the bronze medal going into today's final two heats.

The leaders after two heats were defending four-man gold medalist Wolfgang Hoppe of East Germany at 1 minute, 53.47 seconds and last weekend's two-man gold medalist Ianis Kipours of the Soviet Union (1:54.00). Hoppe bettered the track record by more than a second on his first run.
