Article: Dogs, owners clash: pit bull, master killed

It started as a fight between a pit bull terrier and a
mixed-breed mutt, but ended in a battle between their North Side
masters.
When it was over, the pit bull's master and the pit bull were
fatally stabbed and the mutt's master was charged with murder.
Nearby residents defended the pit bull.
The fight erupted early Wednesday as John Weldon, 46, of 5016 N.
Winthrop, a mover, was walking his pit bull, Diamond, and a neighbor,
William Murdock, 55, of 5042 N. Winthrop, a barber, was walking his
mixed-breed, Goldie.
The dogs began fighting as the two pairs met in front of 5060 N.
Winthrop about 1 a.m.
