The mixed results in the early Democratic Party
primaries and caucuses have fueled speculation that the party will
have a "brokered convention" when it meets in Atlanta in July. A
convention that takes more than one ballot to nominate a candidate
will be an absolute disaster for the Democratic Party.
The purpose of national party conventions in this age of media
politics is to ratify a pre-determined presidential candidate and
that candidate's running mate, and to adopt a party platform.
Meeting for less than a week, a national party convention cannot
expect to accomplish more than that.
