Article: After 10 years, our family still misses the old Daily News

The other day, while rummaging through a cartoon of old
photographs and memorabilia, I found, at the very bottom of the box,
a copy of the final edition of the Chicago Daily News. My mother had
wrapped it in plastic, but time has, nevertheless, succeeded in
yellowing its pages.
The dateline of the paper reads March 4, 1978. It's been only
10 years since that fine newspaper went out of business, but it seems
like a lot longer.
The Daily News was a fixture in our house when I was growing up,
and its Saturday edition was the highlight of the weekend. Still
today, my mother will occasionally forget herself on a Saturday and
say she is going out for a walk to pick up the Daily News.
