NEW YORK Sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson
concede they cannot supply scientific evidence to support their
controversial claim that AIDS is "running rampant" among
heterosexuals.
Asked at a stormy press conference here Monday how he could
justify the conclusion, Masters said, "I simply believe this."
In a new book, Crisis: Heterosexual Behavior in the Age of AIDS,
the sex researchers and a collaborator, Dr. Robert Kolodny, conclude
that "the AIDS virus is now running rampant in the heterosexual
community."
But at the press conference, Johnson said, "I'm not sure we
chose the word `rampant' ourselves."
