Iran and Iraq traded missile attacks on populated areas again
Thursday, even as both Persian Gulf combatants announced that they
had agreed to end the deadly "war of the cities."
The Iraqis were said to have offered the halt, effective today,
if the Iranians also stopped their long-range missile assaults.
Turkish Prime Minister Turgut Ozal said both sides then communicated
to him in Ankara their willingness to abide by the agreement.
"Turkey is determined to use every conceivable peaceful
possibility to see that these attacks are discontinued," Ozal said.
Among the conditions spelled out by the Iraqis were Iranian
acceptance of strikes on ships and economic targets without ...
