A Democratic presidential nominee selected by a broker in
Atlanta would be a disaster for the party, Massachusetts Gov. Michael
S. Dukakis said Saturday as he urged Illinois voters to choose a
single candidate Tuesday.
"I hope you won't be voting for a brokered convention," Dukakis
told diners packed into Miomir's Serbian Club, 2251 W. Lawrence. "I
hope you'll be voting for the person you think will make the best
president.
"The important thing for the people in this state is for them
to look at one person in this (Democratic) field and pick the one
person," he told reporters, adding, "I think a brokered convention
would be a disaster for the party."
