A Palladian window tends to dominate a room and draw attention
to a facade. Because of this, the three-part window, characterized
by its semicircular top, must be carefully designed and placed. One
needn't be as careful as the late Renaissance architect Andrea
Palladio was with his studies of proportion, but you should be more
careful than you would be in placing a piece of furniture.
The need to replace an existing window or the desire to enliven
the design of a special room often provides the opportunity to study
window types, sizes and characteristics. Not too many years ago
choices were limited. Custom windows could be made, but only at
significant expense.
