MANILA Four airmen held as suspects in two coup attempts against
the government have escaped, the Philippines military announced
Monday.
The three officers and one enlisted man were reported missing
from an air force base prison in suburban Pasay just two days after a
rebel army colonel escaped.

administration had helped the colonel, Gregorio Honasan, escape as
part of efforts to manipulate President Corazon C. Aquino.

military had no evidence to link the four missing detainees to the
escape of Honasan, who continued to elude a massive search by
security forces.
