DEAR DR. DONOHUE: Is sulindac a new drug? What does it
accomplish (for arthritis)? What are the side effects?V. Y.
DEAR V. Y.: It's been around awhile now. It is a non-steroid,
anti-inflammation drug. It relieves pain, and for arthritis it
lessens the joint inflammation, which is the cause of the problem.
Don't make me list all the side effects. They include stomach upset,
ear ringing, digestive tract bleeding. Don't anticipate those. They
only occur in a relatively few cases. If you get any of the side
effects, your doctor has similar drugs from which to substitute.
