Article: Hallberg dips into the past for luck

AUGUSTA, Ga. The ever-changing Gary Hallberg is reverting to the past again, and it seems to be working.

The Barrington golfer resurrected his old Cashen putter at the Masters this week, bought two new fedoras and used his sister as a caddie again. Initial results were encouraging.

Hallberg covered the first 36 holes of the Masters in 2-under-par 142, leaving him tied for third and four shots behind leader Sandy Lyle.

But the wheels came off Hallberg's game Saturday when he shot an 8-over-par 80 in the third round. Paired with Fuzzy Zoeller in the next-to-the-last group, Hallberg started with a double bogey and never recovered.
