April is turning out to be an unofficially proclaimed "New Music
Month" in Chicago. Two festivals of new music are opening this week,
and concerts are scheduled April 17 by Philip Glass, and April 26 by
avant-gardist John Cage.
Both festivals will begin Monday. Chamber Music Chicago will
launch its three-concert "Festival of New Music" featuring the Kronos
Quartet at 7:30 p.m. in the Royal-George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted.
Kronos, the modishly dressed, musically advanced foursome from
California who have played music by composers ranging from Alban Berg
to John Lennon, will return to the Royal-George for concerts May 23
and June 20.
