Sex researcher Virginia Johnson confesses a passion, and it's for cookbooks.

"Collecting cookbooks is a vice," she said. "I've been addicted since I was a tot, when I started saving those pamphlets that came with bottles of Watkins vanilla. I stole every recipe book I could get my hands on - with no selectivity, I must admit. Even today, I must have hundreds and hundreds."

She adds, with a laugh, "Reading recipes keeps me from the onerous chore of having to make a lot of rich food that would inevitably settle in at the hip!"

Sometimes, though, she does more with recipes than simply read them.
