After delivering lines like that, comedian Jerry Seinfeld
bounded offstage in front of a sold-out Vic Theatre last fall.
It was a bouncy step in his career climb. The 34-year-old Long
Island native was moving out of the smoke-filled comedy clubs after
more than 10 years and into a special on the HBO pay-cable channel
and national recognition. At the time, Seinfeld said he was leaving
the smaller rooms behind. Seinfeld stood like a gladiator triumphant
in the comedy survival game.
