Article: CTA aide gets conference room at cost of $24,000

The executive director of the cash-short CTA has spent more than $24,000 to build himself a new conference room, saying his very sizable office, second largest in the CTA complex, "just wasn't big enough."

Robert Paaswell said he had asked for "the cheapest possible design" when ordering a nearby empty office and storage area converted to a conference room.

So he was embarrassed, Paaswell said, when he learned the new facility would cost $22,877 unfurnished. Change orders, new carpeting, and the leasing of chairs is raising the total above $24,000.
