I didn't get bowled over with responses to my April 22 column on
onion soup, in which I picked as my favorites Bistro 110, Willy's and
the Greenery, but those lovers of this fine soup - the real
aficionados - who did tell me about their favorites came up with some
tasty suggestions.

I think the most important part of great French onion soup is
the crouton of bread. There is nothing worse than a soggy piece of
bread that falls apart in the bowl. I have made numerous
unsuccessful attempts at homemade onion soup and never can get the
bread to stay ...
