Ballet returns to the Civic Opera House on Saturday with the
premiere performance of Ballet Chicago, complete with full orchestra
and guest artists from the San Francisco, Houston and Pacific
Northwest ballets as well as the Les Grands Ballets Canadiens.
If the dreams of Ballet Chicago's small executive committee and
its artistic director Daniel Duell come true, it also will mark the
return of resident ballet to Chicago.
Many might give a cynical sigh at that last idea. How many
times in recent memory have various groups tried to establish a
resident ballet troupe here? How many ways have they managed to fail
